Red Wing Farm is a small farm in the Swannanoa Valley in the mountains of western North Carolina. We grow heirloom vegetables using ecologically responsible and sustainable growing practices. We operate a diverse, four-season vegetable, herb, and flower garden.
Red Wing Farm is committed to “deep organic” growing practices which far exceed organic standards. Our vegetables, herbs, flowers, and fruit are naturally grown with no herbicides, fungicides, chemical pesticides, or petrochemical fertilizers. We cultivate, plant, and harvest from permanent raised beds by hand using human-powered and human-scale tools and practices (we do not use a tractor). We start annual vegetables from seed and harvest year-round from raised beds in our unheated hoophouse.
We incorporate permaculture principles and biointensive practices into the design and management of our homestead and gardens. We begin with open-pollinated, heirloom seeds and are committed to preserving seed sovereignty and keeping food traditions alive.
In addition to fresh produce, other products available seasonally are: garlic and onions, potatoes, winter squash, dry black beans, seeds and plants, and various live-culture foods such as brine pickles and sauerkraut.
Red Wing Farm hosts educational and community events, workshops, and classes related to organic gardening, simple living, food preservation, sustainability, community, health and wellness, and ecology. We also have an internship program and work-exchange opportunities for short-term volunteers who want to learn about permaculture, biointensive methods, modern homesteading, and organic gardening.

We are stewards of five acres of river bottom land that we intend to preserve as farmland and wildlife habitat in perpetuity. We are committed to leaving the soil, water, and air healthier than we found them.
